The Experience
Villa Olive is the work of François Pécard, the architect behind many of the island's most quietly iconic homes. Instead of one big house, he arranged the villa as a cluster of glass-walled bungalows connected by teak decks, each bedroom sized like a junior suite with its own bathroom, dual rain showers, and either a private terrace or a wall that slides fully open. The central living pavilion opens to a palm-shaded deck and the pool, with desert-style landscaping — cacti, boulders, agave — instead of manicured tropical excess. The palette inside is deliberately restrained: pale wood, white linens, black-and-white photography. What you notice most is the light and the silence. Because you're on the highest ridge of Gouverneur, sunsets pour through the entire property, and the only sound is wind through the palms.
