Villa Blue Swan
A hillside sanctuary in Lurin with sweeping views of Gustavia harbor
Why Go
Perched high above Gustavia on the quiet slopes of Lurin, Villa Blue Swan trades hotel bustle for the intimacy of a private four-bedroom retreat — one where sunsets over Saba and Saint-Martin are the evening's main event and the infinity pool feels stitched to the horizon.
The Experience
Recently reimagined with clean lines and subtle Asian-inspired touches, Blue Swan spreads across a series of pavilions connected by wooden decks and shaded lounges. The main level opens to an infinity pool that seems to spill straight into the Caribbean, while poolside bedroom pavilions give couples travelling together the rare luxury of privacy without isolation. Inside, curated artwork, a grand piano and quiet, tactile finishes give the villa a collector's-home feel rather than a rental one. Daily housekeeping, airport pickup and a concierge on call mean the logistics of St Barth simply disappear.
What to Try
Take an early swim before the trade winds pick up, then have your concierge stage breakfast on the upper deck as Gustavia wakes below. In the late afternoon, uncork the welcome bottle of champagne and claim a lounger on the west-facing deck — Blue Swan's sunset angle is one of the best in Lurin. After dark, the grand piano and open-air living room turn into an unexpectedly romantic setting for a private chef dinner.
Insider Tip
Lurin's hillside roads are narrow and steep — request the villa's airport pickup rather than driving straight from Rémy de Haenen, and ask the concierge to pre-book a Mini Moke or small SUV (never a full-size car) for the rest of your stay. Also: Gouverneur Beach is only a few minutes downhill, but the last stretch of road is one-lane; arrive before 10am to grab shaded parking under the sea grapes.
The Practical Stuff
Location: Route de Lurin, 97133 Saint-Barthélemy, on the hillside above Gustavia. Layout: four en-suite bedrooms (one king, three queens) plus a guest bath, sleeping up to eight across a main pavilion and separate poolside pavilions. Included: airport or ferry pickup, welcome basket with wine or champagne, daily housekeeping (excluding Sundays and holidays), complimentary concierge. Best access: 10-minute drive to Gustavia's port and restaurants; roughly 5 minutes down to Gouverneur Beach; 15 minutes to the airport.
Pair It With
- Abyss Restaurant Guide — An easy Lurin-area dinner option when you'd rather not drive all the way into Gustavia after a day by the pool.
- 6e Sens Massage Wellness & Beauty — Book an in-villa treatment on the deck — the therapists travel to Lurin and the sound of the trade winds beats any spa cabin.
- Absolute Hot Yoga (Gustavia) — A grounding morning class in town before heading back up to Blue Swan for a lazy pool afternoon.
- Gouverneur Beach — The villa's de facto private beach — five minutes downhill, wild and unbuilt, ideal for sunset swims.
