The Experience
The Gustavia boutique is small, whitewashed and unhurried — more atelier than shop. Linen, silk and delicate lace hang loose on wooden rails, catching the harbor breeze through the open door. Staff greet you the moment you walk in, offer a bottle of water, and quietly pull pieces in your size while you browse. The fitting rooms are proper little rooms with curtains and good light, and the styling advice is genuinely useful — expect suggestions on layering a lace top over a swimsuit for lunch, or which caftan reads best against a tan. It feels less like retail and more like being dressed by a friend who happens to design the collection.
What to Try
The signature fringed and lace-trimmed caftans are the pieces to focus on — they're the reason people fly in with an empty suitcase. Also worth trying: the long silk maxi dresses (they photograph beautifully and pack to nothing), the sheer embroidered tunics that double as beach cover-ups and dinner tops, and the delicate lace playsuits. Ask to see any limited-edition or Saint Barth-exclusive prints — Bourdin routinely drops small capsule pieces you won't find in the Paris or Ibiza stores.
Insider Tip
Come in the late morning on your first or second day of the trip, not your last. Popular sizes in the exclusive prints sell through fast in high season, and staff will happily set things aside for a second try-on after you've had a swim and know what you actually need. If you're staying at a villa, mention it — they can arrange delivery of held pieces rather than making you trek back down the hill.
