Why Go
St Barth is barely eight square miles, but its hills, hairpins and rental Minis burn through fuel faster than you'd expect. With just two gas stations on the entire island, this Saint-Jean pump — tucked into Les Galeries du Commerce a stone's throw from the airport — is the one most visitors end up needing. Knowing its rhythm (short weekday hours, a long midday break, and a Sunday closure) is the difference between a smooth drop-off and a very awkward call to your rental company.
The Experience
Pull off the main road opposite the airport runway and you'll spot the pumps behind the Galeries du Commerce shopping arcade. It's a functional, no-frills stop: a couple of pumps, an attendant during opening hours, and a small kiosk. The pace is quintessentially St Barth — unhurried, French, and closed exactly when you'd assume it should be open. Locals swing by in the early morning before the heat, or right at 3pm when the shutters roll back up after the midday pause. Outside those windows, the automated card readers keep you moving, though not every foreign card plays nicely with the French chip-and-PIN system, so it's worth topping up during staffed hours if you can.
What to Try
Fill the tank on your way back from the beach at Saline or Gouverneur so you're not scrambling on the morning of your ferry or flight out. If you're driving a rental Mini Moke, Suzuki Jimny or scooter, unleaded (sans plomb 95) is what you want — diesel pumps are clearly marked. Grab a cold water or a snack from the shops in the Galeries while you're there; A Fleur de Peau and other Saint-Jean boutiques are a two-minute stroll.
Insider Tip
The midday closure (roughly 12–3pm) and the full Sunday shutdown catch out almost every first-time visitor. The card-operated pumps do work after hours, but bring a chip-and-PIN card — many US magnetic-stripe or tap cards get rejected. If you're arriving on a Sunday and picking up a rental with a low tank, ask your rental agency to top it up before handover or you'll be stuck until Monday morning.

Cash accepted in-person during staffed hours. The only other fuel stop on St Barth is at Lorient, so plan accordingly if you're staying on the far side of the island.
