MG Studio: St Jean's Rock-Chic Hair & Barber Hideout
Where island-worn hair gets rescued — with a side of vintage barber cool.
Why Go
Sun, salt, and trade-wind days are murder on hair. MG Studio, tucked into Les Jardins de St Jean, is where locals and long-stay visitors quietly slip in to reset — Sandra, Guillaume and their team run a rock-and-color-splashed salon that pairs L'Oréal color labs for women with vintage 1960s barber chairs and straight-razor rituals for men, all a short stroll from St Jean Beach.
The Experience
Push through the door and you're greeted by a moody, colorful, slightly rock-and-roll interior — think mismatched art, black leather chairs, a soundtrack that leans indie over lounge. On one side, women settle in for balayage or a Keratin smoothing session while sipping something cold; on the other, guys get skin fades, beard sculpting, and a hot-towel finish in classic barber chairs. The vibe is unhurried and personal — Sandra and Guillaume actually consult before they touch your hair, mapping out what your beach-and-boat schedule will do to a fresh color, then choosing products (Kérastase, L'Oréal, or the MEN STORY line) accordingly. It feels far more Marais or East London than sleepy island salon, which is exactly why it's earned its cult following.
What to Try
For women, book the balayage or shading paired with a Capillary Botox treatment — it's the local secret weapon for hair that's been sun-bleached and salt-crunched by a week of catamaran days. If you're staying longer than a fortnight, the Global Keratin permanent straightening survives the humidity better than any at-home fix. For men, the signature move is a fade cut plus beard sculpt with a straight-razor shave and hot towel — worth booking even if you 'just need a trim' before a Nikki Beach lunch or a wedding at Eden Rock.
Insider Tip
Villa and yacht guests get slammed with same-day requests, so the studio books out fast in high season (Dec–Feb and Easter week). Call +590 590 27 69 16 or email mgstudiosbh@hotmail.com the moment your travel dates lock in — ideally two to three weeks ahead — and ask specifically for Sandra for color or Guillaume for barbering. Late-afternoon slots (around 5–6 pm) tend to be the calmest and coincide nicely with a post-appointment sunset drink over at Nikki Beach on the sand below.
