Why Go

Perched on the dramatic cliffs of Pointe Milou, Hotel Christopher trades the buzz of Gustavia for something rarer on St Barth: quiet. It's the kind of place where the loudest thing you'll hear at breakfast is the surf breaking below your terrace, and where guests routinely say they never quite make it off the property.

The Experience

Christopher feels less like a hotel and more like a private clifftop estate. Rooms and suites open onto private terraces framing the Caribbean and, on clear days, the silhouette of neighboring islands. The centerpiece is a 40-meter infinity pool—famously the largest on St Barth—that appears to spill straight into the sea. A Sisley Spa (repeatedly recognized as one of the Caribbean's best) sets treatments in open-air pavilions, so the soundtrack is always the waves. Service is polished but unfussy, striking that hard-to-nail balance between formal French hospitality and the barefoot ease the island is known for.

What to Try

Book dinner at Christopher Coutanceau, the signature restaurant helmed by the two-Michelin-star chef of the same name, where the focus is hyper-local fish and seafood plated with mainland French precision. For lunch, head down to La Plage de Chris for Mediterranean plates with Caribbean accents in a more relaxed, toes-in-the-air setting. Between meals, claim a lounger at the infinity pool early, then work in a Sisley facial or a couples' massage in the open-air pavilion.

Insider Tip

The postal address reads Gustavia, but Christopher is actually on Pointe Milou—about a 10-minute drive from town and the airport. Request a room on the upper terraces facing due west: sunset here, drink in hand at the pool bar, is the moment you'll remember. Non-guests can also book dinner at Christopher Coutanceau, so it's worth a reservation even if you're staying elsewhere on the island.

The Practical Stuff

Address: Pointe Milou, 97133 Saint-Barthélemy (mailing address lists Gustavia). Five-star category, adults-oriented in feel, with rooms, suites, and three standalone villas (Pinta, Nautilus, Bleu). Complimentary buffet breakfast, free Wi-Fi, valet parking, gym, Sisley Spa, and two on-site restaurants. Roughly 10 minutes by car from Gustavia and Saint-Jean; a rental car or hotel transfer is essentially required given the cliffside location.
