Fabienne Miot
St Barth's original jeweler, still hand-forging one-of-a-kind pieces on Rue de la République
Why Go
Fabienne's parents opened the island's very first jewelry store here in 1975, and half a century later she's still at the bench—melting gold, setting stones, and stringing Tahitian pearls into pieces you won't find anywhere else on earth.
The Experience
Tucked into a small storefront in downtown Gustavia a few doors from Le Select, Fabienne Miot feels more like a working atelier than a luxury boutique. The vibe is quiet, personal, and refreshingly unpretentious for St Barth—no velvet ropes, no hovering, just Fabienne (or one of her longtime staff) walking you through trays of handmade rings, pendants, and loose South Sea pearls. As a self-taught goldsmith, she'll happily explain soldering techniques, source stones from her private reserve, and sketch a custom piece on the spot if nothing in the case is calling your name. It's the kind of shop where a five-minute browse turns into an hour-long conversation about color, provenance, and the perfect pearl for your skin tone.
What to Try
The signature St Barth ring—a subtle gold silhouette of the island—is the bestseller and the classic souvenir locals gift each other. Beyond that, the Tahitian and South Sea pearl pieces are the real draw: peacock, pistachio, aubergine, and silver pearls sold loose or strung to your specs. Ask to see the one-of-a-kind cocktail rings with unusual colored stones, and if you have time before you fly out, commission a bespoke piece using a pearl or stone you fall for in-store.
Insider Tip
Don't shop the case—shop Fabienne. Bring a photo of an outfit or an heirloom stone you want reset, and she'll design around it. Custom commissions typically take a few days, so stop in the first day of your trip rather than the last. Cash and card both fine, but for larger custom work a wire transfer often gets you a friendlier price.
