La Cantina reads like a sailors' tavern that somehow washed up in the middle of the Caribbean's most glamorous port. By day it's a laid-back coffee stop with a front-row view of the megayachts jockeying for space in Gustavia harbor; by night the stools fill up with a mixed crew of island residents, seasonal workers, mahi-mahi fishermen, and travelers who've figured out that the €30-a-head bill is a small miracle on this island. Music turns up, plates of tapas start circulating, and the energy tips from mellow to genuinely festive without ever feeling staged. There's no dress code, no reservation gauntlet, and no attitude — just a long bar, an easy view of the water, and the kind of crowd that makes you want to order one more round.

Start with a spread of shareable tapas and a plate of oysters while you scope out the harbor. The catch of the day and the fried seafood platters are the moves if you're hungry, and the homemade burger with fries is a quiet favorite of the after-beach crowd. And remember it's closed Sundays — the one day nearly everything in Gustavia is quiet.
