The Experience
Walking in feels less like a transaction and more like checking in with a friend who happens to run a garage. The shop sits on Rue de la Paix directly across from the Tourist Office — a two-minute stroll from the ferry dock and five minutes from Gustaf III airport. The fleet is deliberately eclectic: nippy Suzukis and Fiats for the vertiginous roads, open-air Mokes and buggies for beach days, plus scooters and quads for anyone who wants the wind (and the occasional goat) in their face. If you're arriving by yacht or checking into a villa on the far side of the island, they'll deliver the vehicle to you and collect it when you're done, which is the sort of small mercy that makes a St Barth trip feel effortless.
What to Try
Ask for a Suzuki Jimny or a small 4x4 if you plan to chase the sunset at Colombier or Gouverneur — the hairpins between Corossol and Anse des Cayes reward something short, torquey, and easy to squeeze past oncoming trucks. Adventurous types should upgrade to a buggy for a half-day loop: Saline, Grand Fond, then a slow crawl up to Toiny for the ocean view.

Reserve the vehicle you actually want at least a week ahead in high season (mid-December through early March and around Bucket Regatta) — the island's rental pool is finite, and BARTHLOC's Mokes and buggies vanish first. If you land on a Sunday afternoon, note the compressed hours (10–12 and 4–6) and text Noémie's mobile in advance so someone's waiting; the shop is closed midday like most Gustavia businesses, so plan pickups around the 12–2 lunch shutter.
